Trump to lift Syria sanctions in bid to revive economy, foster regional ties

President Donald Trump is set to sign an executive order on Monday formally terminating a U.S. sanctions program on Syria, aiming to end the country's isolation from the international financial system and fulfill Washington’s pledge to support Syria’s post-war reconstruction. The decision will ease broad economic sanctions while maintaining targeted restrictions on former president Bashar al-Assad, his associates, human rights abusers, drug traffickers, individuals linked to chemical weapons, the Islamic State, ISIS affiliates, and Iranian proxies, according to White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt. Assad was ousted in December following a rapid offensive by Islamist-led rebel groups. Since then, Syria has begun reestablishing international ties, although stability remains fragile. In May, President Trump met with Syria's new leader, Ahmed al-Sharaa, in Riyadh. During the meeting, Trump surprised many by announcing the US would lift its sanctions, prompting a significant shi...

Turkey evacuates over 50,000 as wildfires rage in Izmir province

Rescuers in Turkey have evacuated more than 50,000 people, mostly from the western province of Izmir, as firefighters battle a string of wildfires, the AFAD disaster agency said Monday. The worst blaze began Sunday in Seferihisar, a forested area 50 kilometres (30 miles) southwest of the resort city of Izmir, spreading rapidly with winds reaching up to 120 kilometres (75 miles) per hour, officials said. "A total of over 50,000 citizens from 41 settlements have been temporarily relocated to safe areas," AFAD wrote on X, adding that 79 people had been affected by smoke and other fire-related issues—none seriously. Of those evacuated, 42,300 were from Seferihisar, where TV footage showed flames raging through forested areas, sending vast clouds of black smoke into the sky. Overnight, around 20 evacuated homes were gutted by the blaze, with only the walls left standing, according to footage aired on private TV network NTV. Residents in the seaside village of Urkmez had on Sunday ...

Canada scraps digital services tax, paving way for renewed US trade talks

The United States will resume trade negotiations with Canada immediately after Ottawa scrapped its digital services tax targeting US technology firms, White House economic adviser Kevin Hassett said on Monday. "Absolutely," Hassett said on Fox News Channel when asked about the talks restarting. US President Donald Trump had asked the Canadians to take the tax off at a G7 meeting in Canada earlier in June, he said. "It's something that they've studied, now they've agreed to, and for sure, that means that we can get back to the negotiations." Canada halted its plans to begin collecting a new digital services tax targeting US technology firms just hours before this was due to start on Monday in a bid to advance stalled trade negotiations with the US. Canada's finance ministry said late on Sunday that Prime Minister Mark Carney and Trump would resume trade negotiations in order to agree on a deal by July 21. "Thank you Canada for removing your Digit...

Two firefighters shot dead in Idaho ambush, gunman found dead after standoff

A gunman ambushed and fatally shot two firefighters responding to a forest fire in northern Idaho on Sunday, wounding a third, during an hours-long standoff before the suspect was found dead, the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office said. The shooting occurred at Canfield Mountain, a nature area popular with hikers near Coeur d'Alene, about 260 miles (420 km) east of Seattle. Sheriff Bob Norris told reporters that the incident involved sniper fire targeting both law enforcement officers and firefighters. “We do believe that the suspect started the fire,” Norris said during a press conference. “This was a total ambush. These firefighters did not have a chance.” A third firefighter, who was wounded, underwent surgery and is now in stable condition but “fighting for his life,” Norris said. Officers exchanged gunfire with the suspect, though it remains unclear whether the gunman was killed by police or died by suicide. Authorities have not yet identified the suspect or determined a mot...

Ukraine withdraws from anti-landmine treaty

Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky on Sunday signed a decree putting his war-torn country on track to leave an international anti-landmine treaty, according to a document published on his website. The Ottawa Convention bans signatories from acquiring, producing, stockpiling or using anti-personnel mines, which are designed to be buried or hidden on the ground. They often leave victims mutilated if they are not immediately killed, and unexploded mines cause long-term risks for civilians. Russia "is extremely cynical in its use of anti-personnel mines," Zelensky said in his daily address. "This is the trademark of Russian killers — to destroy life by any means at their disposal," he added. More than 160 countries and territories are signatories to the Ottawa Convention, though neither the United States nor Russia have joined. To enter into force, the decision still must be ratified by the Ukrainian parliament and notified to the United Nations. The withdrawal ...

'Very wealthy' group to buy TikTok: Trump

President Donald Trump said Sunday a group of buyers had been found for TikTok, which faces a looming ban in the United States due to its China ties, adding he could name the purchasers in two weeks. "We have a buyer for TikTok, by the way," Trump said in an interview on Fox's Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo. "Very wealthy people. It's a group of wealthy people," the president said, without revealing more except to say he would make their identities known "in about two weeks." The president also said he would likely need "China approval" for the sale, "and I think President Xi (Jinping) will probably do it." TikTok is owned by China-based internet company ByteDance. A federal law requiring TikTok's sale or ban on national security grounds was due to take effect the day before Trump's inauguration on January 20. But the Republican, whose 2024 election campaign relied heavily on social media and who has said he...

Trump calls Zohran Mamdani ‘pure communist’ in latest attack on NYC Democratic mayoral winner

US President Donald Trump branded the winner of New York City’s mayoral Democratic primary a “pure communist” in remarks that aired Sunday, an epithet the progressive candidate dismissed as political theatrics. Zohran Mamdani’s shock win last week against a scandal-scarred political heavyweight resonated as a thunderclap within the party, and drew the ire of Trump and his collaborators, who accused Mamdani of being a radical extremist. The Republican’s aggressive criticism of the self-described democratic socialist is sure to ramp up over the coming months as Trump’s party seeks to push Democrats away from the political centre and frame them as too radical to win major US elections. “He’s pure communist” and a “radical leftist … lunatic,” Trump fumed on Fox News talk show ‘Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo’. “I think it’s very bad for New York,” added Trump, who grew up in the city and built his sprawling real estate business there. “If he does get in, I’m going to be preside...

Iran holds state funeral for top brass slain in war with Israel

Iran held a state funeral service Saturday for around 60 people, including its military commanders, killed in its war with Israel, after Tehran's top diplomat condemned Donald Trump's comments on supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei as "unacceptable". The proceedings started at 8:00 am local time (0430 GMT) in the capital Tehran as government offices and many businesses were closed on Saturday for the occasion. The state broadcaster showed footage of thousands of people donning black clothes, waving Iranian flags, holding pictures of the slain military commanders, chanting slogans of "Death to America" and "Death to Israel" and trampling the flags of Israel and the US on the ground. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, along with other senior government officials and military commanders -- including Esmail Qaani, head of the Quds Force, the foreign operations arm of the Revolutionary Guards -- attended the event. Senior advisor to Iran's supre...

G7 agrees on tax exemption framework for US, UK companies

The United States and the Group of Seven nations have agreed to support a proposal that would exempt US companies from some components of an existing global agreement, the G7 said in a statement on Saturday. The group has created a 'side-by-side' system in response to the US administration agreeing to scrap the Section 899 retaliatory tax proposal from President Donald Trump's tax and spending bill, it said in a statement from Canada, the head of the rolling G7 presidency. The G7 said the plan recognizes existing US minimum tax laws and aims to bring more stability to the international tax system. UK businesses are also spared higher taxes after the removal of Section 899 from President Donald Trump's tax and spending bill. Birthright citizenship challenge still looms for Trump

The US Supreme Court's landmark ruling blunting a potent weapon that federal judges have used to block government policies nationwide during legal challenges was in many ways a victory for President Donald Trump, except perhaps on the very policy he is seeking to enforce. An executive order that the Republican president signed on his first day back in office in January would restrict birthright citizenship - a far-reaching plan that three federal judges, questioning its constitutionality, quickly halted nationwide through so-called "universal" injunctions. The three judges found that the order likely violates citizenship language in the US Constitution's 14th Amendment. The directive remains blocked while lower courts reconsider the scope of their injunctions, and the Supreme Court said it cannot take effect for 30 days, a window that gives the challengers time to seek further protection from those courts. The court's six conservative justices delivered the majori...

Human smugglers sentenced to life in deaths of 53 migrants in Texas

The leader of a human smuggling ring convicted of involvement in the deaths of 53 migrants in a sweltering truck in Texas in 2022 was sentenced to life in prison on Friday. Felipe Orduna-Torres, 30, headed a network that brought adults and children from Guatemala, Honduras, and Mexico into the United States between December 2021 and June 2022, according to prosecutors. He was convicted in March of transporting aliens within the United States resulting in death, causing serious bodily injury, and placing lives in jeopardy. District Judge Orlando Garcia of the Western District of Texas sentenced Orduna-Torres to life in prison on Friday and a $250,000 fine, the Justice Department said in a statement. Another convicted member of the smuggling ring, Armando Gonzales-Ortega, 55, was sentenced to 83 years in prison for his involvement in the deaths of the 53 migrants. "These criminals will spend the rest of their lives in prison because of their cruel choice to profit off of human suffe...

Trump ends trade talks with Canada over tax on US tech firms

President Donald Trump said Friday that he is calling off trade negotiations with Canada in retaliation for taxes impacting major US tech firms, adding that Ottawa will learn of their tariff rate within a week. "Based on this egregious Tax, we are hereby terminating ALL discussions on Trade with Canada, effective immediately," Trump said in a post on his Truth Social platform. He added that Canada will soon find out the levy it needs to pay to do business in the United States, calling his country's northern neighbor "very difficult" to trade with. Washington has previously taken issue with Canada's digital services tax, requesting dispute settlement talks last year over the matter. While Canada's digital services tax is not new -- it was enacted last year – US service providers are "on the hook for a multi-billion dollar payment in Canada" by June 30, noted the Computer & Communications Industry Association. While Canada has been spared fro...

Trump vows to bomb Iran if uranium enrichment continues

President Donald Trump said on Friday he would consider bombing Iran again if Tehran was enriching uranium to a level that concerned the United States, and he backed inspections of Iran's bombed nuclear sites. “Sure, without question, absolutely,” Trump said when asked about the possibility of new bombing of Iranian nuclear sites if deemed necessary at some point. At a White House news conference, Trump said he plans to respond soon to comments from Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, who said Iran "slapped America in the face" by launching an attack against a major US base in Qatar following last weekend's US bombing raid. Trump also said he would like inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) or another respected source to be able to inspect Iran's nuclear sites after they were bombed last weekend. Trump said he believes the sites were “obliterated.” He rejected any suggestion that the damage to the sites was not as profound as he has cla...

Netanyahu, Trump reportedly agree on ending Gaza war within two week

In a significant development, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump have reportedly agreed on a swift resolution to the ongoing conflict in Gaza. According to Israel Hayom newspaper, quoting an unnamed source, reported that Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump agreed in a phone call this week on a rapid end to the war in Gaza, potentially within two weeks. Israel Hayom said the deal could include expanding the Abraham Accords between Israel and its Arab neighbors to include Saudi Arabia and Syria. The prime minister's office declined to comment on the report. The US-brokered Israel-Iran ceasefire announced by Trump has raised hopes among Palestinians for an end to over 20 months of war in Gaza, which has devastated the territory and displaced most of its residents. Malnutrition is now widespread. Later, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Thursday the outcome of Israel's war with Iran presented opportunities for peace that his country ...

US tightens visa rules for Pakistanis

Pakistani applicants for the F, M, or J categories of non-immigrant visas were advised by the United States consulates in Karachi and Lahore on Thursday to make their social media accounts public for vetting, according to a report. The instructions followed similar advice issued by the US Embassy in New Delhi earlier this week. The move came after President Donald Trump’s administration ordered the resumption of student visa appointments, accompanied by significantly stricter social media vetting of applicants. “Effective immediately, all individuals applying for an F, M, or J non-immigrant visa are requested to adjust the privacy settings on all of their social media accounts to ‘public’ to facilitate vetting necessary to establish their identity and admissibility to the United States,” the consulates said in an Instagram post. https://ift.tt/3ZrTMF2 The post stated that since 2019, the US has required visa applicants to provide social media identifiers on immigrant and non-immigrant ...

SCO refuses to toe India’s line

Defence ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) were unable to adopt a joint statement at their meeting in Qingdao, China, after India reportedly refused to sign the document, claiming it was pro-Pakistan for not referencing the April attack on Indian tourists. The SCO is a 10-member Eurasian security and political bloc comprising China, Russia, India, Pakistan, Iran and several Central Asian states. The defence ministers’ meeting was held ahead of the annual leaders’ summit scheduled for later this year. Federal Minister for Defence Khawaja Muhammad Asif led Pakistan’s delegation at the meeting, where he reaffirmed the country’s commitment to regional stability, collective security and counterterrorism cooperation. In his address, the minister condemned Israel’s recent military actions against Iran and the continuing violence in Gaza while calling for peaceful resolutions to long-standing global disputes, including Kashmir and Palestine. Grok shows 'flaws' in fact-checking Israel-Iran war: study

Elon Musk's AI chatbot Grok produced inaccurate and contradictory responses when users sought to fact-check the Israel-Iran conflict, a study said Tuesday, raising fresh doubts about its reliability as a debunking tool. With tech platforms reducing their reliance on human fact-checkers, users are increasingly utilizing AI-powered chatbots — including xAI's Grok — in search of reliable information, but their responses are often themselves prone to misinformation. "The investigation into Grok's performance during the first days of the Israel-Iran conflict exposes significant flaws and limitations in the AI chatbot's ability to provide accurate, reliable, and consistent information during times of crisis," said the study from the Digital Forensic Research Lab (DFRLab) of the Atlantic Council, an American think tank. "Grok demonstrated that it struggles with verifying already-confirmed facts, analyzing fake visuals, and avoiding unsubstantiated claims." ...

Seven Israeli soldiers killed in Gaza blast, army says

Seven soldiers were killed in Gaza after an attack on their armoured vehicle, Israel said Wednesday, in one of the deadliest incidents for its forces in the more than 20-month war. The troops were operating in the southern Gaza city of Khan Yunis on Tuesday when their vehicle caught fire after assailants attached an explosive device to it, the Israeli military said. The army's website listed the names of the seven soldiers, including a platoon commander from the battalion who "fell during combat in the southern Gaza Strip". "Yesterday afternoon, during an operational activity, an explosive device was attached to an armored Puma vehicle belonging to the brigade's forces," military spokesperson Effie Defrin told a briefing. "As a result, the armored vehicle caught fire. Rescue forces and helicopters were dispatched to the scene and made attempts to extract the soldiers, but were unsuccessful." Nearly half the US population face scorching heat wave

Tens of millions of Americans sweltered outside or sought air-conditioned refuge as an "extremely dangerous" heat wave blanketed the eastern United States on Tuesday with record high temperatures. As a fierce sun reflected off the skyscrapers of New York, the normally frenetic Times Square was virtually deserted by mid-day as the mercury reached 99 degrees Fahrenheit (37 Celsius), the hottest since 2012 in the Big Apple. By mid-afternoon Newark, New Jersey hit 103F (39.4C), according to the National Weather Service, and Philadelphia also reached 100F (38C). New Yorkers walked under umbrellas as they navigated the streets of Manhattan, while others sunbathed in swimsuits in parks. "It's been kind of a cold spring. Then all of a sudden, boom, here it is," Eleanor Burke, 82, told AFP of the heat, recalling how she took a dog for a walk the night before and "he almost looked like he was dead." Soaring temperatures are straining the city's power grid as...

US gives $30m to controversial aid group in Gaza despite violence concerns

The United States is giving $30 million to a controversial humanitarian group delivering aid in war-torn Gaza, despite concerns among some US officials about the month-old operation and the killing of Palestinians near food distribution sites, according to four sources and a document seen by Reuters. Washington has long backed the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) diplomatically, but this is the first known US government financial contribution to the organization. GHF uses private US military and logistics firms to transport aid into the Palestinian enclave for distribution at so-called secure sites. A document reviewed by Reuters showed that the $30 million grant from the US Agency for International Development (USAID) was authorized on Friday under a "priority directive" from the White House and State Department. The document also noted an initial $7 million disbursement had been made. The United States could approve additional monthly grants of $30 million for the GHF, sa...

Iran declares end of 12-day 'Israel-imposed' war

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian announced the "end of the 12-day war" imposed by Israel, in a message to the nation carried by the official IRNA news agency on Tuesday. "Today, after the heroic resistance of our great nation, whose determination makes history, we are witnessing the establishment of a truce and the ending of this 12-day war imposed by the adventurism and provocation" of Israel, Pezeshkian said. Pezeshkian also said Tehran was ready to resolve issues with the US based on international frameworks, in comments in a phone call with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Iran's official news agency IRNA reported on Tuesday. The call comes a day after US President Donald Trump announced a ceasefire deal between Israel and Iran. Qatar's prime minister persuaded Iran to agree to a US-proposed ceasefire with Israel after Iranian missiles targeted an American base near Doha, a source with knowledge of the talks said on Tuesday. Prime Minister Shei...

China can buy oil from Iran, hope they’ll purchase more from US too: Trump

US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that China can continue to purchase oil from Iran after the US bombed the OPEC member's nuclear facilities, and added that he hoped China would also buy “plenty” from the United States. "China can now continue to purchase oil from Iran. Hopefully, they will be purchasing plenty from the US, also," Trump said in a post on Truth Social. Trump’s post followed his announcement of a ceasefire agreement between Iran and Israel after the US bombing over the weekend of three Iranian nuclear sites. He has publicly rebuked both countries for early violations of the truce. Earlier in his second term, which began in January, Trump said he was re-imposing "maximum pressure" on Iran over its nuclear program and support for militant groups in the Middle East. His administration imposed a series of Iran-related sanctions, including measures targeting several of China's independent “teapot” refineries and port terminal operators for ...

US House of Reps bans WhatsApp over security concerns

Meta Platforms' WhatsApp messaging service has been banned from all US House of Representatives devices, according to a memo sent to all House staff on Monday. The notice said the "Office of Cybersecurity has deemed WhatsApp a high risk to users due to the lack of transparency in how it protects user data, absence of stored data encryption and potential security risks involved with its use". The memo, from the chief administrative officer, recommended using other messaging apps, including Microsoft Corp's Teams platform, Amazon.com's Wickr, Signal, and Apple's iMessage and FaceTime. Meta disagreed with the move "in the strongest possible terms," a company spokesperson said, noting that the platform provides a higher level of security than the other approved apps. In January, a WhatsApp official said Israeli spyware company Paragon Solutions had targeted scores of its users, including journalists and members of civil society. "Protecting the peop...

Iran's FM Araghchi says no ceasefire agreed

Despite US President Donald Trump’s announcement of a ceasefire between Israel and Iran, both Israeli and Iranian officials have yet to confirm any formal agreement. Despite an Iranian official confirming that Tehran had agreed to a ceasefire, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has denied that any formal truce has been agreed. Speaking to local media, he said Tehran would halt its attacks only if Israel ends its “illegal aggression” by 4 a.m. local time (00:30 GMT). As of now, Israel has not publicly commented on the reported ceasefire. While Trump called for an end to the “12-day war,” Iranian officials have insisted that no formal agreement has been reached, leaving the situation uncertain and volatile. There have been no reported Israeli attacks on Iran since that time. "The final decision on the cessation of our military operations will be made later," Araqchi added in a post on X. As Iran has repeatedly made clear: Israel launched war on Iran, not the other way arou...

Trump calls Iran's response to US strikes ‘very weak’

US President Donald Trump described Iran’s response to the strikes on its nuclear facilities as “very weak” and expressed hope for de-escalation in the region. He said that Iran had given advance notice before launching a missile attack on the US Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, which allowed American forces to avoid casualties. “I am pleased to report that NO Americans were harmed, and hardly any damage was done,” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social on Monday. “Most importantly, they’ve gotten it all out of their ‘system,’ and there will, hopefully, be no further HATE.” https://ift.tt/NFHgiYx According to Trump, a total of 14 missiles were fired by Iran, with 13 intercepted and one “set free” because it was heading in a non-threatening direction. The US Al Udeid base, the largest American military installation in the Middle East, was the target of the missile barrage after Tehran vowed retaliation for the US bombing of Iranian nuclear sites. Trump emphasised that not only were no America...

Oil prices fall 5% after Iran strikes US bases

Oil prices sank more than five per cent Monday after Iran attacked a US military base in neighboring Qatar in retaliation for US weekend strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities. Near 1745 GMT, futures for West Texas Intermediate fell 5.3 per cent to $69.96 a barrel, while Brent oil futures fell by similar amounts. Explosions were heard over Qatar's capital, Doha, on Monday, a Reuters witness reported, shortly after a Western diplomat said there had been a credible Iranian threat against the US-run al Udeid air base in the Gulf Arab state since midday. "Oil flows for now aren't the primary target and are likely not to be impacted. I think it's going to be military retaliation on US bases and/or trying to hit more of the Israeli civilian targets," said John Kilduff, a partner at Again Capital. Qatar said it closed its airspace, while the United Arab Emirates' airspace was closed based on flight paths and air traffic control audio, according to Flightradar. US Pres...

Boat ferrying 19 missing near Comoros

Rescue services were searching for a boat carrying 19 people that has gone missing between Madagascar and its destination, the Comoros, Comoran Transport Minister Hassane Alfeine Yasmine said. The boat has been missing for two days and the neighbouring Indian Ocean territories of Mauritius and Seychelles have also been alerted, the minister told AFP. The boat left Majunga, northeast Madagascar Monday, June 16, and had been due at the Comoros island of Mutsamudu on Thursday, Yasmine added. "On board, there were 14 Malagasy, four Comorians and one Afghan," she said. All were men except for a young woman, the daughter of the owner of the boat, the minister said. The boat was flying the Madagascar flag. "Immediately after the alert, the Comorian government contacted all competent authorities, including the gendarmerie, coastguards and the sub-region to help in the search," she said. She was also in touch with the transport minister in Madagascar, she added. from Lates...

Suicide bombing at Damascus church kills at least 20, injures dozens

At least 20 people were killed and dozens injured when a suicide bomber blew himself up at the Mar Elias Church in the Dweila neighbourhood of the Syrian capital Damascus on Sunday, health authorities and security sources said. It was the first suicide bombing in Damascus since Bashar al-Assad was toppled by rebel insurgency in December. Syria’s interior ministry said the suicide bomber was a member of Islamic State. “He entered the church, opened fire and then detonated his explosive vest,” a ministry statement added. A security source, speaking on condition of anonymity, said two men were involved in the attack, including the one who blew himself up. Islamic State has been behind several attempted attacks on churches in Syria since Assad’s fall, but this was the first to succeed, another security source told Reuters. Syria’s state news agency cited the health ministry as saying that 52 people were also injured in the blast. A livestream from the site by Syria’s civil de...

Iranian opposition leaders urge Khamenei to step down after US strikes

The leaders of two prominent Iranian opposition factions on Sunday urged supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei to step down and spare more bloodshed, in the wake of unprecedented American attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities. Reza Pahlavi, the son of the shah ousted by the 1979 Islamic revolution, and Maryam Rajavi, the leader of the People's Mujahedin (MEK), which is outlawed in Iran, said in separate statements that Khamenei must quit after over a week of war between Iran and Israel. The whereabouts of Khamenei, who has led the country since 1989, are unclear after Israel refused to rule out killing him. Belarus frees jailed opposition leader after appeal from US

Belarus freed top opposition figure Sergei Tikhanovsky and more than a dozen other political prisoners Saturday following an appeal from the White House, Minsk said, a sign of warming ties between Washington and Belarus-ally Moscow. The release came just hours after US special envoy Keith Kellogg met Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko in Minsk, the highest-profile visit of a US official to the authoritarian state in years. Tikhanovsky's wife Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, who took the mantle of the opposition movement after her husband's jailing, thanked US President Donald Trump directly for brokering the deal. European politicians and members of Belarus's exiled opposition also welcomed the news. The European Union hailed Tikhanovsky's release as a "symbol of hope" and a leading activist called it an "important moment". Tikhanovsky, 46, had been imprisoned for more than five years. The popular Youtuber had planned to run against Lukashenko in the A...

Israel signals it may strike Iran's nuclear facilities before US deadline, sources say

Israeli officials have told the Trump administration they do not want to wait two weeks for Iran to reach a deal to dismantle key parts of its nuclear program and Israel could act alone before the deadline is up, two sources said, amid a continuing debate on Trump's team about whether the US should get involved. The two sources familiar with the matter said Israel had communicated their concerns to Trump administration officials on Thursday in what they described as a tense phone call. The Israeli officials said they do not want to wait the two weeks that US President Donald Trump presented on Thursday as a deadline for deciding whether the US will get involved in the Israel-Iran war, said the sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity. The Israeli participants on the call included Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Israel Katz and military chief Eyal Zamir, according to a security source. The Israelis believe they have a limited window of opportunity to ...
